K9 Friends
A Lifeline for Stray and Abandoned Dogs in the UAE
K9 Friends has been dedicated to rescuing and rehoming stray and abandoned dogs since 1989. As a volunteer-run organization, their mission is to provide shelter, high standards of care, and a pathway to new homes for dogs in need.
The organization’s primary focus is on the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs, ensuring they receive necessary veterinary care and a safe environment while awaiting adoption. In addition to rescuing strays, K9 Friends plays an active role in reuniting lost dogs with their owners and offering support and guidance to new pet owners. They also work tirelessly to educate the public on responsible dog ownership, aiming to foster a compassionate and responsible dog-owning community in the UAE.
K9 Friends strives to find lifelong homes for every dog they rescue. They follow a meticulous homing process, where each dog is neutered, health-checked, and carefully matched with a suitable family. Through this process, they address the issue of stray dogs in a sustainable manner. They also host a variety of events designed to promote education and raise awareness of responsible pet ownership.
Operating as a non-profit organization, K9 Friends is registered under the Government’s Community Development Authority (CDA), allowing them to function legally and ensure that all funds raised directly support the shelter and its activities. The shelter was generously provided by the government in 2009, and since then, K9 Friends has relied on donations, adoption fees, and sales of merchandise to cover the costs of its day-to-day operations.
Volunteers are the backbone of K9 Friends, with a dedicated group of passionate individuals assisting in both the office and kennels. Local companies and members of the public also offer invaluable support, enabling the organization to continue its vital work. Thanks to the ongoing commitment of these supporters, K9 Friends is making a significant difference in the welfare of dogs across the UAE.
